The Gift From His Wife

At the beginning of the movie, John (played by Keanu Reeves) is a normal person happily living with his wife who was responsible for John Wick to leave the world of crime. Right in the beginning, she left the world because of a terminal illness, leaving John alone again in the accursed world. Soon after her death, John received a gift at his doorstep from his wife Helen with a written note that said:

John, I’m sorry can’t be there for you. But you still need something, someone to love, so start with this. Because the car doesn’t count. love you, John. This illness has loomed over us for a long time and now that I have found my peace, find yours. Until that day. your best friend.”

It signifies the love for his car and how she was well aware of it. However, because of it, she chose to gift a dog named Daisey to John so he has someone to come home to.

After Helen’s Funeral, John took Daisy out to get some food, and he stopped at the gas station to fill the car up with gasoline. As he was about to leave the gas station three men pulled up alongside him and one of the guys Losef Tarasov (Son of the Russian Mafia played by Alfie Allen) complemented his ‘Boss 429’ and asked if it was a 1970 model year, to which John corrected and said that it is a 1969 model, however, to keep the conversation short he did not state that the car is a Mach-1 instead of the ‘Boss 429’.

Later that day, the three Russian gangsters broke into his house, killed his dog, and stole the John Wick Mustang from the garage, not knowing who John was. The biggest mistake they made was to not kill the man and Mr. Wick got furious about the fact that they had taken away the last gift of his wife from him.

Being a man of Focus, Commitment, and Sheer Will, he once killed 3 men in a bar with a “Pencil”, he went all in and in to seek revenge for people who did this to him. If you haven’t watched the movie yet we will surely recommend you to do, as you will see impeccable character building and an action-packed storyline that ensures that you don’t get bored for a single second.

Back to the “Mustang” and why it was not the Boss 429

Although the car was mentioned as a 1969 Ford Boss 429 Mustang, however, it is a Mustang Mach 1. We can speculate that based on the transmission all the Boss 429 came with a 4-speed manual transmission and the featured car in the movie was an automatic which we can see clearly in the second movie. Where John gets his car back and puts the transmission into the reverse gear.

With that, one of the notable takeaways from the car is the nonfunctional hood scoop equipped as standard on the 1969 and 1970 Mach-1, and the design is completely different from the prominent hood scoop of the Boss 429. Also, Mr. Wick’s car had a chin splitter and rear spoiler which was not available for the Boss 429.

Also, the interior of the car looks similar to the Mach-1, However, the stock steering wheel was replaced by the Shelby Mustang which adds a special touch to the car. Although it is not a Boss 429 Mustang, according to us John Wick’s Mustang is a very tastefully modified car that compliments the character’s graceful yet furious nature.

If you look at John Wick Ford Mustang Mach-1, it is covered in a metal gray exterior color and the car gets stock interiors colored in black except for the three-spoked Shelby Wood steering wheel. The car also features dual rally stripe decals, hood pins, and a front lip and rear deck lid spoiler that gives it an all-around sporty appearance. Also, the stock wheels of the car are replaced by the Magnum 500 wheels, and the rubber is also upgraded to the Firestone Wide Oval tires. To give it subtle high-performance dragster vibes while retaining the 90’s style ethos.

Having said that, It it is obvious that if this Keanu Reeves’s Mustang ever dropped in an auction, it will be stamped with a SOLD badge within minutes if not sooner. However, you’d be able to buy yourself the same model which is still the closest thing to settle down for.
