Nothing dramatic was introduced in 1970 aside from a few minor cosmetic changes. The headlamps were now situated within the bumper all flush and tidy. Optional covered rear wheels were available while the taillight light assembly was revised slightly and was now a bit more rectangular.
The imposing 60 vertical chrome bars had the Buick tri-shield badge in the middle. A couple of fender skirt options were present. Buyers could choose from half or full skirts. More than 80 percent of 1970 Riviera were equipped with Vinyl roofs which were offered in five colors.
The Interior remained unchanged compared to the '69 Riviera but now comes with different textures and standard wood trims across the dashboard and controls. Buyers could choose between bench or bucket seats in colors like Sandalwood, black, green, and brown.
Cloth seats were also available as was a full-length center console with bucket seats which as standard were equipped with a small center console. Floor floor-mounted shifter was also an option. Other options include AC and ventilation, tinted windows, wire wheels, and carpeted lower door panels
The last year of second-gen Riviera added about 17 pounds to its curb weight which now stood at 4199 lbs. It came with Buick's famous ACcudrive suspension system and self-adjusting power brakes as standard.
The sole engine option was a 455 Cu in 4 bbl V8 which made a healthy 370 hp and 510 lb-ft. It was mated to a 3-speed TH400 tranny with 2.78 rear end.
An optional GS trim gave the 1970 Buick Rivera some sporting chops with HD suspension., Positive Traction Diff with 3.42 rear end, fiberglass belted tires, and bespoke badging mounted on fenders.
37,336 Riviera were made in 1970 and over 3500 had the cool GS package. Today these retail for about $20,000 to $25,000.
