Elon Musk Debuts Tesla Cybercab Robotaxi Starting Under $30,000

Today at We, Robot ( a name inspired by Will Smith’s iconic movie I, Robot) Elon Musk introduced the Robotaxi, marking a shift in focus from affordable mass-market vehicles to autonomous transport equipped with rather impractical gull-wing doors devoid of any steering wheel or pedals.

The way too visionary CEO of Tesla estimates that Cybertruck-inspired Cybercab will take over the taxi business by 2026 and will start at under 30k.

Tesla claims that the Cybertruck-inspired Robotaxi will be 10 times safer than human-driven ones and will also last 10 times longer. I can't explain the maths behind that but it has something to do with an overall lower accident ratio.

The Robotaxi features non-hardware-based full self-driving capability relying on AI tricks and cameras, costing about 5 cents a mile, as per Musk

The Cybertaxi or Robotaxi looks like a blend of a pickup truck and a hatchback, designed to invoke a sense of future riddle with weird-looking autonomous taxis. Musk also demonstrated the “Autonomy” of his revolutionary Cybertaxi as it navigated a closed course at Warner Bros.

The Robotaxi also features a nifty little tech called Inductive charging, or Wireless charging. This means it can recharge itself as it travels via conductors embedded in the road or at charging stations, the only thing I personally think is worth watching out for.

After the Robotaxi, Musk also introduces Robovan, which bears an uncanny resemblance to the one in the movie I, Robot. The Robovan looks like a gold-painted Airstream and will be able to haul up to 20 passengers at a time. So far we have seen-

  • Elon Musk has a thing for Sci-Fi movies
  • There is no such thing as a design team at Tesla

The event was concluded with the arrival of Tesla Bots entertaining rather naive crowd with pre-programmed bar-tending theatrics probably smirking behind their opaque fascia thinking of all the jobs they will eventually take from us.

In a Nutshell, if you are planning to be a factory worker or a cab driver you might wanna reconsider your line of work. The fully autonomous future Musk has promised by 2026 is likely more than a decade away, as the CEO is infamous for overestimating his deadlines, a lot. (cough cough 2000 hp Tesla Roadster promised 5 years back…cough) but it does ring a death knell for folks like us, ultimately and inevitably sh#itcanned and living on chump change.

A sentiment unexpectedly echoed in our favor by usually heartless and profit-minded Wall Street pundits as Tesla closed with a 6 percent slump in its shares, who would’ve thought?
