Corvette C7 ZR1 Is A Supercharged Lesson On Saving The Manuals

The C7 ZR1 ended an era with a blown V8 and a manual tranny, a recipe that still has no equal. Now that the upcoming Turbocharged C8 ZR1 has got us all tingling, it is about time we appreciated the most powerful Corvette ever made.

Corvette C7 ZR1 Is A Supercharged Lesson On Saving The Manuals

Most Powerful V8 Ever...

The LT5 V8 displaces 6.2 L and features a first ever dual injection system. GM manged to put in both direct and port injection, a dry sump oil system and along with an Eaton sourced 4 lobe supercharger.

The all aluminum block and head also feature sodium filled exhaust valve that stay cool longer, along with lightweight intake valves made out of Titanium. The crankshaft is carved out of forged steel. To keep things cool, Corvette features 32 heat exchangers all around to sustain 755 hp and 715 lb-ft the LT(high)5 is capable of producing.

Whoever decided to pair a slick 7-speed manual with this beast is simply nuts. Although, an automatic is available, the proud feeling of heel toe-ing a 755 hp Corvette is simply unmatched.

Track-Ready Performance

C7 ZR1 uses extensive Carbon fiber components to keep the curb weight around 358 lb for the coupe and, 3642 lb for the convertible. A front and rear double-wishbone suspension, and Magnetic Selective Ride Control, Michelin SC2s and LSD ensure a staggering 1.2 Gs of lateral grip.

Corvette C7 ZR1 uses Brembo Carbon Ceramics all around with 15.5 inch 6 piston front and 15.3 inch 4 piston rear calipers. With all these gizmos the C7 ZR1 can manage a 2.85 second 0-60 time and 212 mph flat out, the ZTK package reduces the top end a bit in favor of more downforce

There has been an unofficial test of the Corvette in the Nürburgring, by Jim Mero, the ZR1 has set the time of approximately 7 minutes and 4 seconds, and that leaves several high-end supercars behind, such as Mercedes-AMG GTR Pro, McLaren 720S, and Porsche 911 Turbo S(992.1).

Real-Deal Aerodynamics

When it comes to aerodynamics, the 2019 C7 ZR1 draws heavily from the C7.R race car program, ensuring exceptional downforce and high-speed stability.

GM also spent a lot of time in wind tunnel and worked heavily on CFD simulation to make the Corvette as aero friendly as possible.

All in, it makes around 950 pounds of downforce thanks to an all carbon two-step adjustable rear wing and a front wing. There are openings everywhere to guide the airflow around tires, cool the brakes and the massive V8.

What is ZTK Package for C7 ZR1?

Chevrolet offered the ZTK package it has Magnetic Performance Suspension with special tune , front P285/30ZR19 and rear P335/25ZR20 Michelin Pilot Super Sport Cup 2 summer-only, run-flat tires, adjustable high-wing spoiler, and specific front splitter end caps.

How Much Are C7 ZR1 Nowadays?

Only 2,894 C7 ZR1s were made and only few of them has ZTK package. It was priced around $121,000 for the coupe and $126,000 for the drop top. Add $5,000 for the track specific ZTK package.

Since they are relatively new, you can get one at around $200,000 to $250,000. Yes its almost double the MSRP but considering it's the last ZR1 with a manual it might be worth it as the next one will have an auto.
