EVs have been notoriously crushing 1/4 mile records ever since the Plaid arrived. Recently, Aspark Owl claimed the title of world's fastest EV, prompting us to revisit the ultimate supercar benchmark of all time.

2023 Porsche 911 Turbo S (992)-9.9 Seconds

It is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.7-liter flat-6 engine that makes 640 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. It pairs with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

The 911 Turbo S runs a 2.2-second zero-to-60-mph run with a top speed of 205 mph. Car and Driver tested a 911 Turbo S in 2022 and it ran a 1/4 mile in 9.9 s at 223.7 km/h (139 mph) thanks to an insanely dialed in lauch control and AWD.

Next up is the 2014 McLaren P1, which was part of the holy trinity of hybird hypercars alongside the Porsche 918 and the Ferrari LaFerrari. The 2014 P1 completes the quarter-mile in 9.8 at 148.9 mph.

This time was achieved by MotorTrend during their test of the car in 2014. At the time, this made the P1 the fastest road car ever tested by them.

The 2014 McLaren P1 boasts a hybrid powertrain comprising a 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine and an electric motor. The combination delivers a staggering 903 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque, propelling the P1 from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.8 seconds with a top speed of 217 mph.

2023 Tesla Model X Plaid-9.75 Seconds

The quarter-mile time for the Model X Plaid is 9.75 seconds at 144.88 mph, which makes it the fastest quarter-mile SUV in the world and the second-fastest Tesla behind the Model S Plaid.

This time was achieved by Brooks Weisblat of DragTimes'. During the testing, Brooks was also able to achieve a 0–60 time of 2.3 seconds, which is two-tenths quicker than the official 0–60 time.

The Tesla Model X Plaid comes with three electric motors that have a combined output of 1020 horsepower. This helps the super SUV go from 0-60 mph in just 2.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 168 mph.

2015 Porsche 918 Spyder-9.7 Seconds

Next up is the 2015 Porsche 918 Spyder, which achieved a quarter-mile time of 9.7 seconds. This is two-tenths quicker than the modern-day 992 Turbo S and helps it earn the title of the fastest quarter-mile car ever made by Porsche. 

The hypercar's active aerodynamics, adaptive suspension, and all-wheel drive further enhance its dynamic capabilities. The 918 Spyder had a price tag of $845k when new, but in today's market, it's worth around $1.5 million.

2023 Ferrari 296 GTB Assetto Fiorano-9.6 Seconds

Next up is the 2023 Ferrari 296 GTB Assetto Fiorano, which was able to achieve a quarter-mile time of 9.6 seconds at 149.6 mph. This time, it puts it one place behind another Ferrari, the SF90 Stradale, which was one-tenth quicker to the quarter mile.

MotorTrend was able to achieve this during their testing of the 2023 Ferrari 296 GTB Assetto Fiorano.

The 2023 Ferrari 296 GTB Assetto Fiorano is the tracked-focused version of the 296 GTB. The 296 GTB Assetto Fiorano loses a few pounds compared to the standard 296 GTB and comes with track-tuned suspension, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, and an active rear wing for razor-sharp handling.

All of this increases the price from $312,986 for the 296 GTB to $507,751 for the Assetto Fiorano package.

2021 Ferrari SF90 Stradale-9.5 Seconds

The 2021 Ferrari SF90 Stradale is the fastest quarter-mile Ferrari in the world, with a time of 9.5 seconds. Car and Driver was able to achieve this during their testing of the SF90.

They were also able to achieve a 0–60 time of 2.0 seconds, which is about half quicker than the official time. These numbers also make the SF90 the fastest hybrid car in the world.

The SF90 Stradale comes with 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that works alongside three electric motors to produce 986 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque in the Ferrari SF90 Stradale. The SF90 Stradale is an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic with a peak speed of 211 mph.

2021 McLaren 765LT-9.41 Seconds

The second McLaren on this list is the 2021 McLaren 765LT, which was able to achieve a quarter-mile time of 9.419 seconds at 150 mph. Brooks Weisblat from DragTimes was able to get this time using a set of Pirelli P Zero street tires that came with the car.

He was even able to get a time of 9.33 seconds using a set of still-road-legal Toyo R888R rubber. This certainly makes the 765LT the fastest quarter-mile McLaren has ever made.

The 2021 McLaren 765LT is the track-focused version of the 720S. It's powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, which unleashes 755 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque.

The lightweight design, employing extensive carbon fiber, enables a swift 0–60 mph time of 2.4 seconds and a top speed of 205 mph. Advanced aerodynamics, a prominent active rear wing, and optimized suspension contribute to its agility.

2018 Bugatti Chiron Sport-9.41 Seconds

The 2018 Bugatti Chiron Sport is one of two Bugattis on this list. Car and Driver was able to achieve a quarter-mile timing of 9.4 seconds at 158 mph during their testing. This puts it just ahead of the McLaren 765LT, which did the quarter-mile in 9.419 seconds.

The Chiron Sport was able to achieve such a time thanks to its montrous 8.0-liter quad-turbocharged W16 engine that produces a staggering 1,479 horsepower and 1,180 lb-ft of torque. This also helps the car go from 0 to 60 mph in 2.5 seconds and reach an electronically limited top speed of 261 mph.

The Bugatti Chiron Sport is the track-focused version of the normal Chiron and was first unveiled to the public at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show.

Though it comes with the same engine as the Chiron, the Chiron Sport is 40 pounds lighter because of a lighter, more unrestricted exhaust system and extensive use of carbon fiber. The Chrion Sport also comes with stiffer suspensions to give it greater cornering ability. The Bugatti Chiron Sport was limited to 60 units, with each one costing more than $3.2 million.

2021 Tesla Model S Plaid-9.23 Seconds

Next comes the Tesla Model S Plaid—the fastest-accelerating sedan in the world. A 2021 Model S Plaid was able to achieve a quarter-mile time of 9.23 seconds at 152.6 mph at the hands of Brooks Weisblat of DragTimes.

The Tesla Model S has been in production since 2012, and it was in 2021 that Tesla first unveiled the Plaid version, which comes with three electric motors that produce 1020 horsepower. The Plaid model advertised a peak speed of 200 mph and a 0–60 mph of 1.9 seconds. This model is focused on performance and has updates to the interior, drivetrain, and suspension.

2015 Ultima Evolution-9.2 Seconds

Next here is the Ultima Evolution, which is a sports car built by British manufacturer Ultima. According to Ultima, they were able to achieve a quarter-mile time of 9.2 seconds at 156 mph. This is good enough to make the Evolution the 6th fastest quarter-mile car in the world.

Though you can get the car with different specs, the spec used for their quarter-mile run had a 6.8-liter supercharged LS V8, which produces more than 1000 horsepower.

The Ultima Evolution was first unveiled in 2015 as the replacement for the Ultima GTR. The highest-spec version of the Evolution weighs just 2094 lbs and comes with a 6.8-liter supercharged V8 that produces 1020 horsepower and 920 lb-ft of torque.

And it is because of this incredible power-to-weight ratio that the Ulima Evolution has a staggering quarter-mile time of 9.2 seconds.

According to Ultima, the car can also go from 0 to 60 mph in 2.3 seconds and reach a limited top speed of 240 mph. Interested customers can buy the car fully built or as a kit car and assemble it themselves for a price of $122,000.

2022 Bugatti Chiron Super Sport-9.1 Seconds

Next up is the 2022 Bugatti Chiron Super Sport, which was able to achieve a quarter-mile time of 9.1 seconds during a test conducted by Car and Driver. During the same test, C/D was also able to complete the half-mile in 14.1 seconds at 197 mph. 200 mph took a mere 14.8 seconds, which is a full second faster than the official time.

The Bugatti Chiron Super Sport is the standard version of the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+, the fastest production car in the world. The Chiron Super Sport comes with the same engine as the 300+ model, which is a souped-up version of the normal Chiron engine.

It produces the same 1578 horsepower and 1180 lb-ft of torque. But unlike the Super Sport 300+, which has a top speed of 304.7 mph, the Chiron Super Sport has a limited top speed of 273 mph.

2023 Lucid Air Sapphire-8.95 Seconds

The 2023 Lucid Air Sapphire is the second and fastest sedan on this list, with a quarter-mile time of 8.95 seconds at 158 mph. This helps it become the 4th fastest quarter-mile in the world, only behind the Challenger SRT Demon 170, the Rimac Nevera, and the Pininfarina Battista.

The Lucid Air Sapphire is able to achieve such a ridiculous quarter-mile because of its three electric motors that combine to produce 1,234 hp and 1,430 lb-ft of torque.

According to Lucid, it can also go from 0 to 60 mph in 1.89 seconds, which is a tenth quicker than its main competitor, the Tesla Model S Plaid. It can also do 0-100 mph in 3.84 seconds, which is faster than the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport's time of 4.1 seconds.

2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170-8.91 Seconds

Next comes the fastest-accelerating gas car ever made, the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170. This is the last heir of the "Last Call"  series and after that, all Challengers are gonna be electric. 

The new Demon 170 carrying more than 1,000 hp completes the quarter-mile run in 8.91 seconds at 151 mph.

The 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 has a 6.2L supercharged V8 engine that, with the help of E85 fuel, makes 1,025 horsepower and 945 lb-ft of torque. It accelerates from 0-60 mph in 1.66 seconds and has a top speed of 215 mph.

2023 Rimac Nevera-8.58 Seconds

Next comes the Nevera, one of the most famous hypercars of recent times, made by Croatian automaker Rimac Automobili.

According to Rimac, the Nevera can complete a quarter-mile in 8.58 seconds. This places it just behind its Pininfarina Battista, a car that is based on the Nevera and can do the quarter mile in 8.55 seconds.

The 2023 Rimac Nevera is limited to just 150 models, with each one costing a whopping $2.2 million. It comes with four electric motors and a 117.0 kWh battery pack that produce 1813 horsepower and 1741 lb-ft of torque.

According to Rimac, the Nevera has a top speed of 256 mph, and it can go from 0 to 60 mph in 1.74 seconds.

2023 Pininfarina Battista-8.55 Seconds

The fastest quarter-mile car of all time is the 2023 Pininfarina Battista, with a time of 8.55 seconds. This time was set for NATRAX, an automotive testing facility in India, in February 2023. The record was previously held by the Rimac Nevera, with which it shares a lot of its underpinnings, including the powertrain.

The Pininfarina Battista also has the record for the fastest half-mile car, with a time of 13.38 seconds.

The Battista, made by Automobili Pininfarina GmbH, was first revealed to the public at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. The car borrows its powerplant from the Rimac Nevera, which consists of four electric motors and a 120 kW/h battery.

The maximum output of the electric powertrain in the Battista is 1,900 horsepower and 1726 lb-ft of torque. This helps it achieve a 0–60 time of 1.79 seconds. According to the company, the car can reach a top speed of 225.5 mph.

Production of the car began in 2022, with a total of 150 units planned. Each of these will cost a staggering $2.2 million.

Special Mention: 2023 McMurtry Speirling-7.97 Seconds

The McMurtry Speirling set the record for both the fastest 0-60 time and the fastest quarter-mile timing in December 2022, while being driven by none other than Mat Watson of CarWow.

The Speirling set a 0–60 mph time of 1.4 seconds and a quarter-mile timing of 7.97 seconds, which cleared the previous records, set by the Pininfarina Battista, quite comfortably.

This is not the first time that the McMurtry Speirling has set a record, as it set the record for the fastest car around the Goodwood Festival of Speed with a time of 39.14 seconds earlier in 2022.

With the help of two electric motors seated on the rear portion, the McMurtry Speirling obtains 1000 horsepower and 1,033 lb-ft of torque.
