Here is What We Know About Upcoming Corvette SUV

After posting record sales in 2023, the SUV market is nothing but raging on steroids. Top-tier carmakers like Bentley, Rolls Royce, Aston Martin and Lamborghini have been enjoying the success of the bloated best sellers for quite some time now.

Stateside though things are just about getting spicy. After the debut of the first hated then loved Ford Mustang Mach-E, the Detroit big three are gearing up for the inevitable shift towards SUVs. The most eagerly awaited are the Ford Mustang Raptor and a yet unnamed Chevy Corvette-based SUV. The latter is what we are gonna look at today.

Will There Ever Be a Corvette SUV?

Yes, as someone inside General Motors told Car and Driver that GM is finally looking to expand the iconic Corvette nameplate beyond its coupe and convertible obligations by offering much more practical SUV and sedan versions.

The statement contradicts what GM CEO Mary Barra told Motortrend during the Automotive Press Association event, “We don't comment on future products” when they asked about the Corvette SUV. Looks like they have backtracked on their decision likely due to high demand and solid sales figures of their rivals.

What Could The Corvette SUV Be Like?

The looks of Corvette SUV will depend on trim chosen with top variant being the most dramatically styled.

One of the coolest things about Corvette is the way it looks. For most it's either a love-it or hate-it type of deal nonetheless its styling is standout from all angles.

The Corvette SUV will likely have a similar light signature front and rear just like its coupe counterpart to evoke a sense of lineage and direct connection to its 2 door siblings.

The exterior styling will be full of jagged edges and sharp aero bits at least on the Z06 trim level. Don’t expect anything radical like Purosangue’s suicide doors but all things considered, it will sure look like a high-riding, unapologetic, four-door beast.

The current Corvette C8 lineup has two engines in three flavors. The 5.5L 670 hp flat plane in Z06 and a 6.2L in Stingray and E-Ray with the lattermost also getting an electric motor making it the first hybrid and quickest Corvette ever doing 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds.

Either one of these could power the top-tier Corvette SUV likely to be called Z06. The base variants could feature Turbocharged inline fours and V6s borrowed from sister cars like XT4 and CT5 in gas or hybrid avatars.

GM's electrification strategy is currently laser-focused on the Cadillac lineup with its “iq” series of cars like Lyriq, Optiq Celestiq, and Vistiq. Corvette will likely be next and don’t be surprised if the Corvette SUV turns out to be an all-electric affair.

The SUV will likely compete on various levels with Mach-E, the upcoming Wagoneer EV, and Audi e-Tron SUVs. Pricing could be around $65,000 to $100,000 depending on the trim. Expect more confirmations and teasers regarding this still elusive SUV in the coming month and a full-fledged model within the next couple of years. The only thing we can say for sure right now is that a Corvette-based SUV is in the works.
