Released back in 2011, the Lamborghini Aventador has proved to be a top dog over a course of 11 years of its existence. Lamborghini is among the few automakers still making a magnificent V12 engine that delivers spine-tingling performance and a driving experience that stimulates your focus and sensations with its V12 symphony. In this article, we will look at the things you need to know about Lamborghini Aventador, the most selling V12 Lambo ever.

12. Lamborghini Aventador Is The Best-selling V12 Lamborghini of all time

Ever since the entry-level Lamborghini Gallardo with a V10 arrived in the supercar market, it lowered the demand of the V12 Lamborghinis considerably. However, the Lamborghini Aventador is an exception. Lamborghini was able to sell 11,831 Aventadors till 2023 as per Wikipedia.

It just smashed the sales of the Murcielago only in its fifth year of production. Thus, there is no doubt that the Aventador is the most celebrated V12-powered Lamborghini of all time. With that being said, the Aventador’s successor, the Revuelto carries the flame as it happens to be sold out till late 2026. In other words, if you decided to order the first ever Lamborghini plug in hybrid, you wouldn’t be able to lay hands on it for the next 3 years or so.

11. A Hollywood Star

The next thing you may not know about the Lamborghini Aventador is its appearance in several Hollywood films but what made it more famous was its cameo in the Batman Dark Knight Rises with a “Gotham-6498227” license plate. Then, the Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 was the holy grail of supercars and perfectly suited the billionaire lifestyle of Bruce Wayne. Apart from this, the Aventador has appeared in famous movies like the Fast and Furious franchise, Transformers Age of Extinction, etc.

10. First Lamborghini with Driving Modes

The Lamborghini Aventador is the first model from Lamborghini to receive driving modes, the Strada, Sport, and Corsa. The Strada is the standard setup with comfort suspension and steering setup with linear power delivery.

As the name suggests, the Sport mode offers a more focused driving setup for an amplified driving experience. When you turn ON the Corsa, it becomes a whole new animal and unlocks the maximum performance the Aventador has to offer. In addition, the facelift Lamborghini Aventador S introduced an extra model called the EGO. This driving mode lets you adjust the steering, suspension, and powertrain individually.

9. Telemetry System For Proper Track Experience

The track-focused Lamborghini Aventador SVJ is the first ever Lambo to include the Telemetry system. In simple terms, the Telemetry system is a feature that provides information like the lap time, average speed, maximum speed, g-force calculator, a camera to record your driving, track length, and the number of laps. You can see all the information by connecting to the Lamborghini Unica app.

8. Ultimate Track Weapon

The very first Lamborghini Aventador had a downside of moderate handling on tracks. It was all over the track due to its massive bodywork resulting in underwhelming handling even compared to the entry-level Lamborghini Huracan. Nevertheless, Lamborghini came up with a track version called the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ which was the first V12 Lambo to incorporate ALA (Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva), an active aerodynamic system built to set records on the race tracks. The ALA 2.0 system is the upgraded version of the ALA that you can find in the Lamborghini Huracan Performante.

This system adds flaps on the front splitter and two more flaps inside the carbon fiber massive rear wing with a central fin along with vortex generators and large rear diffusers under the body. These electronically actuated flaps open and close every 500 milliseconds to improve the downforce under braking and to reduce drag on the straights, setting a record for the fastest road-legal car around the mighty Nürburgring track with a time of 6.44.97 in 2018.

7. The Fighter Jet-Inspired Interior

The Lamborghini Aventador is not just striking to stare on the outside but is equally appealing on the inside. The Aventador’s cabin is inspired by fighter jets. Most parts and buttons inside the cabin resemble a fighter jet in some way, including the start-stop toggle button, the reverse gear lever, and the center console buttons. This distinctive interior design makes it one of the most stunning supercar interiors you’ll ever see.

6. The Aventador Ultimae: Last of its Kind

Lamborghini in 2022 launched their final Aventador, the most powerful version of the mighty V12 monster. Tagged as Aventador Ultimae, it uses the same 6.5L naturally aspirated V12 engine which churns out 769 horsepower and 531 lb-ft of torque.

However, there is a change with the transmission, the 7-speed ISR automatic transmission is still on board but with improved gear ratios, making it the most powerful Aventador and the last of the dying breed. As with other special edition models, the Lamborghini Aventador Ultimae is also limited to just 350 units.

While the Lamborghini Aventador was the pinnacle of what the brand had to offer in its era, the Lamborghini didn’t let it become a habit. The Aventador during its span paved the way for even more impressive derivates such as the Veneno, the Centenario, the Sián FKP 37, the Essenza SCV12, the Countach LPI 800-4, etc. These ultra-exclusive supercars were based on Aventador with of course some radical modifications.

4. Four-Wheel Steering For Knife Edge Handling

The Lamborghini Aventador S is the first ever V12 Lambo to be fitted with a four-wheel steering for increased stability at high-speed corners and to make maneuverability easier than ever before. At high speeds, the rear wheels turn to a certain degree in the same direction as the front so that the Aventador can deliver an impeccable level of control and stability. At slower speeds, the opposite happens which improves the turning radius big time.

The four-wheel steering combined with the four-wheel drive system allows for a more enthusiastic drive experience. While the system is particularly quite complicated, the Lamborghini optimized the new four-wheel drive system specifically to operate with rear-wheel steering.

3. Lamborghini’s State Of The Art Adaptive Suspension

With a highly complex adaptive suspension setup, the Lamborghini Aventador uses magneto-rheological shock absorbers at the front and rear enhancing the driving experience and agility. This suspension works in tandem with the driving modes which alters the stiffness by constantly fluctuating the magnetic energy sent to fluids inside the shock absorbers which gives the Aventador rewarding handling and stimulating driving characteristics right when you need it the most.

2. Lamborghini Aventador Special Models

Lamborghini from time to time has rolled out special edition models of Aventador for those who demand even more exclusivity. In 2012, the 1 of 1 Aventador J (Jota) was showcased at the Geneva Show costing $2.8 million. The Aventador LP 720-4 50º Anniversario edition with a total of 200 units (100 coupe and 100 roadster) was released in 2013 marking the 50th anniversary of the brand.

Other special models such as the Aventador Pirelli Edition (2014), Aventador SVJ 63 (63 units each for coupe and roadster), Aventador SVJ Roadster Xago Edition (10 total units), etc were also part of the supercar’s journey.

1. Lamborghini Aventador Price And Auction Value

Lamborghini Aventador at the time of its launch was originally priced at $396,000 which adjusted to around $522,000 in 2022 for the Ultimae Coupe. For the roadster, the price ranged from $440,000 to $556,000 throughout its existence. The last Ultimae Coupe that rolled off the production line in 2022 was sold at an RM Sotheby’s auction for over $1.6 million.

If you think this is expensive, the Aventador J presented at the Geneva show and the only unit ever built was sold for $2.8 million. Wait, there is more. In 2011, a 1/8-scale model Aventador LP 700-4 with 55 lbs of gold had a starting bid price of $7.5 million. The Robert Gülpen Engineering GmbH made this scale model with a price which could literally get you 18 Aventador Coupes or 39 Lamborghini Gallardos. Take that.

Aventador Successor

Lamborghini Revuelto – Source: Lamborghini Press

In March 2023, the Italian manufacturer unveiled Revuelto as a successor to the Aventador. The Revuelto marked the Lamborghini’s first-ever V12 plug-in hybrid with three electric motors strapped to the signature 6.5L V12 engine that powered the Aventador. This fused with a new 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission translates to a total of 1,001 horsepower (ICE: 814 hp, Electric: 187 hp) along with 595 lb-ft of torque. Some purists turn down the Revuelto for the obvious electric aspect.
